Coca-Cola Co. and PepsiCo said they will change the caramel coloring in their soft drinks to reduce the presence of 4-methylimidazole now that California law requires beverages containing the chemical to post a cancer warning on product labels, USA Today reported.

Coca-Cola said it has told its caramel suppliers to alter their manufacturing processes to reduce formation of the chemical, although the company is confident it poses no health risk at trace levels, the story said.
